UKDI: £2m funding for solving Biosecurity Frontiers challenges

UK Defence Innovation (UKDI) have launched challenge funding competitions which seek solutions in biodetection and biosurveillance, AI and diagnostics, therapeutics and vaccines, and non-pharmaceutical protective systems.

The max project proposal duration is 12 months/100% funded for projects that can end at around TRL4-7 (challenge dependent). Bids are expected to be between £100,000-£500,000.

  • Closes midday 10th June 2026
  • If you have a project idea that matches any of the above challenges, you have a chance to book a 15 min 1 -to-1 slot to enable you to discuss it direct with the competition technical team. These are booked on a 1st come 1st served basis and tend to get booked up. Booking details are here. It’ is important to check the details of the challenges themselves before booking to ensure your idea aligns with the requirement
  • Applicants can submit a very short summary (an Innovation outline) to gauge fit with scope before drafting a full proposal
