Many people in the industry will know of Richard Saunders who retired from QuidelOrtho this week after a career spanning more than 40 years.

Richard has been a great enthusiast for IVR regulation and very generous in sharing expertise with colleagues from across the sector. He has been a stalwart in support for BIVDA, recently stepping down as Chair of the Regulatory Affairs Working Party.

Richard said, “I have been very fortunate to have worked for a many great organisations over those years starting in the UK National Health Service/Public Health before moving into the commercial medical devices field. The Medical Devices / IVD sector has seen many changes from when I first started in the regulatory arena, the implementation of the EU IVDD (98/79/EC) and more recently the EU IVDR (2017/746).

“The IVDR has and continues to present challenges, but I am confident that in a few years when some of the more challenging aspects have been ironed out, we will look back and wonder what all the fuss was about!!”

We hope his optimism for the future proves true. A sincere thank you to Richard for all he has contributed to BIVDA and our members and our best wishes for a happy and unregulated future!
