Joint NHSA & UKRI ‘Diagnostics Summit’ – Update from Doris-Ann

By July 15, 2022No Comments

On Monday Doris-Ann joined the ‘Diagnostics Summit’ being hosted by the Northern Health Science Alliance (NHSA) together with UK Research and Innovation (UKRI – the names for the nine UK research councils, including the Medical Research Council and Innovate UK). The objects for the day were to look at all the innovation activity going on and to discuss the role of the UK Diagnostics Industry moving forward and how regional activity plays into this. Doris-Ann was pleased to see MedCity were represented and have a working agreement with the NHSA so that activities aren’t operating in isolation at both end of England.

The days was a great opportunity to catch up with contacts and make a few new connections including iiCon, the Infection Innovation Consortium run by Prof Janet Hemingway from the Liverpool Scholl of Tropical Medicine. Doris-Ann left the meeting with a new ‘exam question’ in her head – is Government policy focussed on building the UK into a global player for diagnostics as an industry sector or is the intention to really improve on-shore resilience for any future national emergencies? Something for us at BIVDA to pick up in out stakeholder work moving forward!
