BIVDA member selected for the Government’s IDAP pilot

BIVDA is delighted that one of our members, Upfront Diagnostics, is one of only eight companies to be selected for the exclusive Innovative Devices Access Pathway pilot.

Their portable blood test, LVOne, could help paramedics identify stroke patients more quickly. Currently, ambulance workers can’t recognise a patient with a blood clot blocking the flow of blood and oxygen to their brain, who would therefore require urgent treatment at stroke centres rather than local hospitals.

The rapid test can identify LVO strokes within 15 minutes, delivering significantly improved outcomes and a significant reduction in medical treatment costs.

As part of a £10 million funding package for boosting access to medical technology, the eight companies will be supported to bring their devices to market.

The programme is run by the MHRA, NICE, NHS England, Health Technology Wales, and Scottish Health Technology Group. They will be providing tailored, intensive advice on regulatory approval, health tech assessments and access to the NHS.

The pilot was ten times oversubscribed with applications, with all eight technologies subject to rigorous expert assessment against the selection criteria.

Gonzalo Ladreda, CEO of Upfront Diagnostics, told BIVDA, ‘Having the support of The Innovative Device Pathway means a massive step forward towards adoption of LVOne. Our proprietary rapid test will potentially increase access to thrombectomy nationwide in a moment of historic financial strain in the NHS.’
