Doris-Ann has highlighted the dangers of AMR during World Antimicrobial Awareness Week 2022 – including authoring an article and reaching millions through radio interviews.
As part of a Mediaplanet campaign, Doris-Ann composed an article titled, “How can diagnostic tests help with antimicrobial resistance in the UK?”, which was featured in The Guardian yesterday; bringing the link between AMR and IVDs to millions of readers. Such a public intervention demonstrates our industry’s willingness to do all we can to assist in the fight against AMR.
Earlier in the week, Doris-Ann spent several hours being interviewed for hundreds of radio stations across the country – including BBC radio stations and Sky – reaching those from the Shetland Islands all the way to the Isles of Scilly. In total, Doris-Ann brought BIVDA’s message to an estimated 42,655,100 people.
Doris-Ann spoke about a number of AMR-related subjects, many of which will be new to the public. These included the importance of antimicrobial stewardship and how BIVDA members want to discourage choosing cheaper prescription antibiotics over more costly but effective diagnostic testing.
The interviews were extremely well-received with many presenters remarking on Doris-Ann’s ability to explain a difficult issue with such clarity. Darren Gamblen, Presenter and Producer, Express FM, stated, “Brilliant guest, really knowledgeable and great to chat with, so perfect for our listeners.”
