BIVDA cited in Health and Social Care Committee’s Future Cancer Inquiry findings

The Health and Social Care Committee, a cross-party group of parliamentarians, have released the findings of their 15-month long Future Cancer Inquiry, citing BIVDA’s contribution. The inquiry examined how to improve the treatment, diagnosis and prevention of cancer.

Chair Steve Brine Steve Brine MP wrote to the Secretary of State for Health, setting out five key areas for action and highlighting the committee’s key concerns: long-term planning, research, adoption and scale-up, regulation and commercialisation, and leadership and collaboration.

BIVDA were heavily engaged with the committee, and are quoted in the report as calling for better support for innovation and adoption by “introducing key performance indicators to monitor implementation, and providing accessible and appropriate education for clinicians, patients and decision makers.”

Failure to act in the short-term could have grave consequences in the future, the committee warned strongly. You can read the full findings here.

We look forward to continue working with the Health and Social Care Committee on relevant inquiries once Parliament returns and new committee members are elected.
