BIVDA’s Angela Douglas and Kaye Walton attended BD’s two-day Infection Diagnostics Symposium in Birmingham last week. BD asked Angela to chair the symposium and provided the first address of the event titled, ‘Infection Diagnostics: Why are we here?’. The invitation was also extended to BIVDA.

The symposium itself covered a broad range of topics from near-patient testing to AMR through  interactive workshops and plenary lectures.

On the second day, we were pleased to see BIVDA members among the presenters. Lucy Lehane of Lehane Consulting, hosted a session on the important topic of “Accessibility and health equity in diagnostics and patient testing”.

Afterwards, Ian Smith from Veritie Group delivered his presentation: “Designing a POCT service to support community healthcare”, which covered the advantages and challenges of point-of-care testing together with designing and implementing a POCT service to support testing in the community.

The event proved an outstanding opportunity to inform medical professionals of the many innovative devices and tests available which can transform care pathways if adopted and implemented.
