New ‘Office for the Internal Market’ opened by the Government

By September 23, 2021No Comments

The Office for the Internal Market has officially launched this week, and is calling on businesses to report any issues related to trading across different areas of the United Kingdom. All four UK nations can now seek advice from the OIM on the UK’s internal market operation. The OIM will operate as part of the Competition Markets Authority and will use its economic and technical expertise to support the internal market’s functioning, following the UK’s departure from the European Union.

A new digital reporting service has been established by the OIM in order to facilitate businesses sharing experiences of the internal market’s operation. Experiences could be related to pricing, product standards or qualification recognition across different areas of the UK. The OIM will also be monitoring any changes to the market over time. The first State of the UK Internal Market report is scheduled for publication in Spring 2022.

Andrea Coscelli, Chief Executive at the CMA, said: “The OIM will listen to concerns and report to all Governments on the barriers faced by businesses. Its reporting and advice rely on hearing from those who are directly affected, which is why we need people to tell the OIM about any relevant trading issues that they encounter.”
