Government to publish MedTech strategy in first half of 2022

The proposal was disclosed after Labour MP Rosie Cooper asked whether the Secretary of State planned to increase funding available via the MedTech Funding Mandate.

Mr Argar also revealed that the Department intends to work with industry on a range of approaches to “tackle the underlying causes of the lack of adoption” as part of the strategy.

The plan will also examine the role that initiatives such as the MedTech Funding Mandate can play, while also investigating complimentary solutions to ensure that cost-saving, innovative medical devices are made available to patients as quickly as possible.

The MedTech Funding Mandate, launched in April 2021, was a key part of the NHS Long Term Plan’s bid to foster innovation and prepare the NHS for future revolutionary technological developments.
