Researchers from the University of Exeter have found that an at-home blood test – combined with an online brain assessment – can predict a person’s risk of developing Alzheimer’s.
174 participants in the online cognitive testing study PROTECT completed finger-prick blood tests, with researchers finding the presence of two key proteins linked to Alzheimer’s and brain decline closely matched performance in cognitive tests.
This provides hope that, with additional research, at-risk patients can be identified earlier, ensuring they receive the follow-up and eventual care needed to mitigate future disease development.
