The EU REACH restriction on intentionally added microplastics in products will enter into force on 17 October. This measure aims to prevent the release of 50 thousand tonnes of microplastics into the environment. More information on this restriction can be found here.
Though IVDs have an exemption, companies need to report the amounts of microplastics they place on the EU market (including NI) since the European Commission wishes to see a voluntary reduction in microplastics from the sector over time. These requirements have been discussed over BIVDA’s Environmental Working Party held on 06 September.
