Info session on PFAS restriction proposal: first Q&As now online
The first batch of questions and answers focuses on the consultation itself, the opinion-making in ECHA’s committees and the REACH restriction process. More will be added later in May-June. We received altogether over 1 600 questions during the info session on 5 April 2023.

REACH
Robust study summaries effectively support hazard assessment
The final report of the OECD’s project, led by ECHA, on the role of robust study summaries for the hazard assessment of chemicals finds they are fit for purpose. The report also highlights a number of areas for improvement to further increase the trustworthiness and usefulness of robust study summaries.
Member States back microplastics restriction
The EU Member States have voted in favour of restricting intentionally added microplastics on 26 April 2023 in the European Commission’s REACH Committee. The Commission’s draft regulation will still be scrutinised by the European Parliament and Council before it can be adopted.
RAC opinions on restriction proposals available
We have published opinions of the Committee for Risk Assessment on restriction proposals for:
- per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) in firefighting foams (EC -), submitted by ECHA
- terphenyl, hydrogenated (EC 262-967-7, CAS 61788-32-7), submitted by Italy
New substance evaluation conclusion published for CoRAP substance
- bis(2-ethylhexyl) 4,4’-{6-[4-tert-butylcarbamoyl)anilino]-1,3,5-triazine-2,4-diyldiimino}dibenzoate (EC/List number 421-450-8, CAS 154702-15-5), added to the Community rolling action plan (CoRAP) list in 2015 and evaluated by Germany.
New intention to identify a substance of very high concern
One intention has been received for:
- Triphenyl phosphate (EC 204-112-2, CAS 115-86-6)

Testing proposals
We have launched nine new consultations on testing proposals. The deadline for comments is 19 June 2023.
There are currently 31 open consultations on testing proposals.
Testing developmental toxicity under REACH
Our scientists have published an article about the adequate study design for developmental toxicity, including the selection of species, dose level and route.

New data availability system coming – data on current system frozen
From 19 May 2023, we will no longer update the REACH registration data that you can access through our website. The REACH registration factsheets will remain online, but will not be updated before the end of 2023 when the new system is expected to be available.
