ECHA Conference 2024 – save the date and share your ideas
The next ECHA Conference will take place on 28 February 2024 in Helsinki. As we are preparing the programme, we want to hear what would be the most important topics for you. So, fill in our short survey and help us shape a relevant and inspiring stakeholder event.
REACH
Do you have information about analytical methods to measure CMRs in childcare products?
We are looking for information on analytical methods to detect and measure carcinogenic, mutagenic and reprotoxic (CMR) substances in childcare articles. The information will help us in drafting an investigation report for the European Commission, who is planning to prepare a REACH restriction proposal. This call for evidence follows a broader consultation earlier this year.
Have your say by 7 June 2023. Our report is expected to be ready in November 2023.
Commission adopts restriction on lead in PVC
The European Commission adopted on 3 May 2023 a regulation prohibiting the use and placing on the market of lead in polyvinyl chloride (PVC) articles. This concludes a process that started in 2016 when ECHA introduced a restriction proposal for the first time.

List of substances not benefitting from reduced information requirements removed from ECHA’s website
The list was created in 2016 to help registrants interpret the criteria of Annex III of REACH when preparing their registrations for the 2018 registration deadline.

New proposals to harmonise classification and labelling
Three proposals have been submitted for:
- Tincalconite (B4Na2O7.5H2O) (EC 601-708-8, CAS 12045-88-4)
- Ulexite (CaNaH12(BO3)5.2H2O); Ulexite (CaNaH12(BO3)5.2H2O), calcined (EC -, CAS -)
- Colemanite (CaH(BO2)3.2H2O); Boron calcium oxide (B6Ca2O11), hydrate (1:5);Colemanite, calcined (EC -, CAS -)
Consultation on harmonised classification and labelling
We are looking for comments on the harmonised classification and labelling proposal for:
- benzobicyclon (ISO); 3-[2-chloro-4-(methylsulfonyl)benzoyl]-4-(phenylthio)bicyclo[3.2.1]oct-3-en-2-one (EC -, CAS 156963-66-5).
The proposal format combines the draft assessment report prepared according to the Plant Protection Products Regulation and the proposal for harmonised classification and labelling (CLH) under the CLP regulation. Commission consultation on the production for export of chemicals banned in the EU
The European Commission is looking for information as part of its initiative to prohibit the production for export of certain hazardous chemicals that are banned in the EU – to protect non-EU countries from their negative effects on health and the environment.

Annual report on helpdesk activities published
In 2022, EU/EEA national helpdesks received more than 40 000 questions and around 9 500 questions were sent to ECHA’s helpdesks. Helpdesks will continue supporting companies and stakeholders also in the future when e.g. CLP and REACH revisions may result in new obligations.
Member State Committee meets in May-June
The next meeting of our Member State Committee will take place in Helsinki from 31 May to 2 June 2023. The agenda is now available online.
