Addition of quadruple test to Edwards’ syndrome screening pathway

By February 21, 2024No Comments

The UK National Screening Committee (UK NSC) endorses the offer of antenatal screening for Edwards’ syndrome as part of the NHS fetal anomaly screening pathway.

The UK NSC is consulting on a rapid review of modelled data conducted by NHS England. This data suggests that the quadruple screening test, which is offered to pregnant women who miss the first trimester combined screening test, should be used to screen for Edwards’ syndrome in addition to Down’s syndrome.

They are therefore asking stakeholders and the public to read the document below and provide feedback on the following consultation question:

Does the evidence from this rapid review demonstrate that the quadruple test is accurate enough to be added to the antenatal screening pathway for Edwards’ syndrome (Trisomy 18)?

Responses should be emailed to by 5pm on Wednesday 6 March.
