MPA Candidates at the University College London are researching the Governance of Adaptive AI in Medical Devices. Their research focuses on the risks and challenges posed by AI in medical devices and how those risks are increased in the case of Adaptive AI. (Adaptive AI is a subset of AI that is continuously learning from the data it is fed or the environment it operates). Given the fast technological development and the current UK regulatory framework that only addresses the risks of AI, the researchers seek to explore the new risks of adaptive AI and how those can be mitigated.
The research team has already conducted preliminary research and over 10 interviews with regulatory and healthcare sector experts. These interviews have provided insights on what regulatory tools work and the gaps to be addressed. However, the researchers have had only one perspective from device manufacturers and would like to hear more from your perspective on the topic to have a balanced view. We want to know more from the medical device producers about the regulatory challenges they face, barriers, tools that work, and what are their recommendations in making the current framework more efficient and more agile in addressing the challenges of a future adaptive AI in medical devices.
You are invited to join an online workshop on Thursday, 8 August at 15:30 for a discussion with an array of experts on the topic. This is an opportunity to understand better the perspective of all stakeholders, and have adequate recommendations from the research, as well as a networking opportunity for the participants.
