Dear members, following a recent DEFRA/DHSC joint briefing on the UN Stockholm Convention (Persistent Organic Pollutants), please see this slide deck which maps out the process at international and national implementation.

DHSC and DEFRA are particularly interested in member engagement of Socioeconomic impacts of implementation, especially with regard to what evidence members have of impact where longer transition timelines are needed, or we need the scope to include Spare parts for existing devices already on the market. Note that there are two opportunities to make our case, during the initial process of inclusion at the UN level, and then later during national implementation, although as pointed out there is limited scope allowed under the convention at national implementation.

DHSC / DEFRA are also interested in the impact on NI and GB with regard to EU/GB divergence, and likely result on availability IVD devices as a consequence of implementation and/or divergence. DHSC / DEFRA reiterated the need to provide GB/NI specific data to support GB implementation of any POPs restrictions.
