There are three key strategies currently being developed.
- Comprehensive Life Sciences Sector Plan:
- 10-Year Health Plan:
- NHS Innovation and Adoption Strategy:
Aligning these strategies is critical with collaboration between government, industry, and the NHS is key.
BIVDA has been invited to join the Life Sciences Sector Plan Advisory Group which considers the outputs from the defined Task & Finish Groups alongside wider growth-focused policy to agree and formulate the sector plan.
The Task and Finish Groups are:
R&D: Maximising the volume, diversity and impact of all types of research relevant to health & care in the UK (across Commercial and Non-Commercial).
Data & Digital for Research: Creating a globally competitive, trusted national health data research service and secure data environments.
Access & Uptake: Positioning the UK as a global leader for accessing clinically and cost-effective technologies, with a strong emphasis on enhancing the uptake and adoption of innovation within the NHS.
Prioritisation: Identifying how and where to focus efforts on stimulating and incubating innovation and discovery and what should be scaled and adopted.
Ecosystem & Funding Flows: Ensuring the “mechanics” of the UK research, life science and innovation ecosystem are set-up, funded and overseen in such a way as to maximise our collective efforts and investment.
Access to Finance & Investment: Overcoming key barriers preventing UK Life Science, MedTech & software PLC from accessing the capital they need, including through unlocking domestic institutional investment into the sector.
Life Sciences of the Future: Ensuring that the NHS is prepared for, and able to capitalise upon, the new treatment modalities and innovations we expect to come to market in the next 10 years.
Updates and discussion items from these groups will be shared with members through relevant working parties and the Government Affairs Working Party as member input and commentary will be key as these plans are developed over the coming months.
If members have any points of interest or examples which may have been submitted from the 10 year plan consultation response, or proposals to address in any of the T&F groups, please contact helen.dent@bivda.org.uk and we will be sure to represent the sector as required.
