The National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) launched their IVD Health Research Centre on Friday 19 February. BIVDA’s Neil Plumridge and board member Ross Stevenson joined members and stakeholders for the launch.
The new IVD Diagnostics Centre is hosted by the team at Imperial College, in collaboration with key partners across London, including the Royal Marsden and the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine.
The Centre is part of the broader NIHR network, which also includes two other IVD-focused centres: the Newcastle IVD Health Research Centre and the Oxford Community Care Health Research Centre, with a focus on point-of-care testing (POCT).
The HRC aims to support the early development phases of IVD technologies, progressing through to health technology assessment. Additionally, it seeks to develop toolkits to standardise approaches and ensure consistent outcomes, ultimately aiding with bringing products to market. The (HRC) will not only focus on supporting trials within the UK but also work on creating tools that support and evaluate the development of IVDs that meet critical and unmet medical needs.
Ross joined a panel discussion on the NHS 10-Year Plan, providing key industry insight into its potential impact on diagnostics companies and the future of NHS care.
