NHS Net Zero – BIVDA advocacy

By September 17, 2024No Comments

Concerns grow around NHS Net Zero plans.

The NHS Net Zero roadmap mandates by 2027, all NHS suppliers will be required to publicly report targets, emissions and publish a Carbon Reduction Plan for global emissions aligned to the NHS net zero target, for all of their Scope 1, 2 and 3 emissions.

BIVDA members were surveyed in July, and expressed serious concerns about the Scope 3 requirement.  While we understand the NHS’s aspiration to be a leader in sustainability, imposing restrictions on suppliers is out of step with the global nature of the IVD industry. It is likely to result in higher costs and lower product choice for patients.  This plan is out of step with the government’s policy to increase growth and support SMEs.

BIVDA will be engaging with the NHS and government to modify these proposals. If you have feedback or comments, please email beth.loudon@bivda.org.uk.
