We are delighted to announce that Richard Hames (Werfen UK) has been elected as the new Chair of BIVDA.

Richard, a longstanding member of BIVDA’s board, brings extensive experience in the diagnostics industry. His leadership will be fundamental as we continue advocating for the sector at the highest levels and delivering on our strategic goals for members. Richard will serve in this role until 2028.

Helen Dent, Chief Executive of BIVDA, commented: “Richard’s deep expertise and commitment to the diagnostics industry makes him the perfect Chair for BIVDA at this time. His leadership will help us champion market access, innovation, provide greater visibility for the industry, and drive meaningful change for our members and the wider healthcare sector.”

Regarding the announcement, Richard said: “I am truly honoured to have been elected as the new Chair of BIVDA. Over the next three years, I look forward to building on the outstanding work of my predecessor, Helen Tucker, and the dedicated BIVDA secretariat.

With decades of experience in the diagnostics industry, I am passionate about advocating for BIVDA’s vital mission. I look forward to working with colleagues and industry partners to support the growth and impact of this essential sector.”

We would also like to extend our heartfelt thanks to Helen Tucker, who completed her term as BIVDA Chair last Wednesday, for her dedication, leadership, and unwavering support over the past three years.

After more than 40 years in the diagnostics industry, Helen is also set to retire in the coming months. On behalf of the BIVDA Board, secretariat, and membership, as well as her colleagues at Thermo Fisher Scientific, we can confidently say that she will be deeply missed across the industry.

Helen’s tenure as Chair coincided with a period of significant transformation at BIVDA. Thanks to her leadership, we have emerged as a stronger, more cohesive, and influential organisation than ever before.
