The Government has launched England’s first ever Men’s Health Strategy today.
Key takeaways for the diagnostics sector are commitments to:
- Invest £3 million over 3 years, starting in April 2026, into community-based men’s health programmes, designed to reach those most at risk and least likely to engage with traditional services.
- Explore opportunities to allow men to order relevant tests at home through the expansion of the NHS App.
- From 2027, provide support to individuals who are on prostate cancer active monitoring pathways to order and complete PSA blood tests at home.
- Ensure greater access to digital, consultant-led support for men, including increased remote monitoring for men treated for prostate cancer and virtual pathways for men with lower urinary tract problems and men who have raised PSA levels and are at risk of prostate cancer.
- Establish an Academic Men’s Health Network consisting of men’s and public health experts and academics.
- Fund NIHR-led research, in collaboration with UKRI and other partners, to strategically address the evidence gaps in preventing, diagnosing, treating and managing the leading causes of male mortality and ill-health.
We welcome this new strategy and its targeted actions, which will help ensure that the three shifts outlined in the NHS 10-Year Plan are fully leveraged to improve men’s health outcomes.
