Professor Maiwenn Kersaudy-Kerhoas of Heriot-Watt University is seeking an industrial partner to collaborate on a funding proposal to Medical Research Scotland (MRS).
Professor Kersaudy-Kerhoas has developed a prototype of a completely manual cell-free DNA (cfDNA) extraction cassette, designed for use in combination with DNA-based lateral flow assays.
She is seeking to partner with an organisation that has a need for a simple, lay and user–friendly cfDNA (or DNA) extraction solution, and is interested in co-developing this technology through a Medical Research Scotland PhD studentship.
MRS funds the student stipend (Years 1–2: £18,416; Years 3–4: £18,991), paid annually to the University, subject to satisfactory progress. The industrial partner is expected to provide a £3,000 annual top-up for the student (£12,000 in total).
The scheme consistently attracts top-tier students, and has a track record of generating strong intellectual property portfolios, and a right of first refusal is applied to the IP generated.
