The Innovative Devices Access Pathway, or IDAP, is a programme designed to speed up market access for devices which meet a particular NHS need. Delivered in collaboration by DHSC, NICE, NHSE, and the MHRA, the first cohort came together last week in Whitehall.
Speakers included David Lawson MCIPS (DHSC), Laura Squire OBE (MHRA), Jeanette Kusel (NICE), and Tony Young (NHSE). Health Minister Baroness Gillian Merron provided a keynote address and met members of the pathway, including BIVDA member Upfront Diagnostics.
Head of Programmes, Policy and Compliance Paul Fisher attended. Paul commented: “It was great to hear Baroness Merron’s speech, which called out the role of trade associations, the importance of faster regulatory approval, and better market access, particularly for SMEs.”
BIVDA are supportive of the IDAP process, and if the pilot is successful, we call for the principles – bespoke support, better access to government, and a clearer picture of required products – to be adopted for all products.
