Helen was delighted to speak at the North West London Pathology Symposium 2024 about collaboration with industry and understanding how industry and labs can work together in an open and transparent way.
Helen discussed some of the myths around talking with suppliers to achieve shared objectives and examined how it is still possible to address unintended consequences resulting from large scale managed service contracts.
These contracts often end up stifling innovation, increasing costs and being unnecessarily complex, as well as reducing the opportunity for supplier engagement. Helen explained how to still achieve the many benefits which these types of contracts aim to deliver, while addressing the challenges head on.
She described how KPIs and specifications are often used in the least effective ways and how aligning on mutual objectives can be beneficial to the laboratory and to industry by being more efficient and less costly.
