Helen speaks at 2024 BioFocus Conference in Newcastle

The BioFocus Conference 2024 took place last Wednesday, bringing together industry, academia, and experts in life sciences to discuss the latest technologies, innovations, key sector initiatives, and funding opportunities.

BIVDA’s CEO, Helen Dent chaired the session titled ‘Developments in Diagnostics’ informing the audience of the work that BIVDA undertakes and the current trends in medical diagnostics.

BIVDA member Sarah Sadler from Biofortuna followed Helen’s talk. Sarah spoke about how Lyo beads are transforming Point of Care testing as this exciting field evolves, enabling diagnostic developers to break new ground in the management of chronic diseases, controlling infectious outbreaks, and providing personalised medicine. Dan Todd, Founder & CEO, Invenirex and John Young, Professor of Translational Clinical/Healthcare Research, Teesside University and CSO & Co-Founder, ResolutionDx also spoke on their developments.

Other BIVDA members hosted sessions through the day, including Jonathan O’Halloran of QuantumMDx on the ‘State of the Possible: Accelerating the Growth of the Life Sciences Sector in the Region’ and Louise Sutton of Thermo Fisher Scientific who chaired the ‘Industrial Showcase’.
