First meeting of National Commission into the Regulation of AI in Healthcare

By October 28, 2025No Comments

Last week, the MHRA convened the National Commission into the Regulation of AI in Healthcare for the first time.

The Commission brings together global AI leaders, clinicians, regulators, and patient advocates to advise on future-ready frameworks for regulation of AI in health.

BIVDA is a member of the Technology Working Group as part of the commission, represented by our Head of Regulatory Strategy Professor Mike Messenger.

The National Commission and its Working Groups were addressed by Health Minister Dr Zubir Ahmed MP who asked the members to review the current regulations and help build a regulatory framework that provides clarity for clinicians, patients, and innovators, aiming to make the UK a global standard for responsible AI innovation in healthcare.

BIVDA are excited about the opportunities AI offers the IVD industry and welcome the opportunity to contribute to this important initiative. We will provide further updates from the group as they emerge.
