By March 25, 2025No Comments

BIVDA’s Scientific Advisor, Dr Jayne Ellis, delivered a presentation at this week’s UKHSA Conference 2025.

Dr Ellis examined diagnostic innovation in the post-pandemic era, covering BIVDA’s paper on procurement of diagnostic tests during the pandemic and current gaps in pandemic preparedness.

Learning these lessons is vital to ensure the UK can respond robustly to the next pandemic.

Dr Ellis also noted the plethora of diagnostic technologies, such as point-of-care tests and AI-enabled tests, which can each be utilised in a pandemic, while warning that challenges remain. These include an unclear procurement route for companies and the need for greater business incentives.

BIVDA will continue to work with the Government to support their objectives to help make certain that the UK is in a better position to tackle a pandemic than in 2020.
