BIVDA Submission to the Lord Darzi Review

By August 13, 2024No Comments

We would like to thank all members who sent their Lord Darzi review submissions to us last week. If you made a submission but did not send it to us, please send it to ben.kemp@bivda.org.uk.

BIVDA’s own submission examined how diagnostics could be better utilised by the NHS and industry’s frustrations, including slow adoption of products into the NHS and issues pertaining to siloes and lack of operational coordination.

The topics outlined focused on BIVDA’s key themes, such as AMR, genomics and point-of-care testing, as well as others including virtual wards.

We made it very clear that diagnostics are currently underutilised in the NHS and can solve myriad problems. Current innovations, supported by real-world data and evidence, have the ability to tackle longstanding NHS issues immediately and should not be delayed while waiting for future developments.

This includes implementing rapid diagnostic tests in primary care settings to mitigate AMR, as outlined in our consensus statement earlier this year.

Lord Darzi’s review is set to be released next month. He will also deliver the keynote at BIVDA’s Parliamentary Reception on 30 October, where we anticipate to hear the conclusions of his review with specific reference to diagnostics.
