BIVDA Member Spotlight: Native Design

British design consultancy and BIVDA member, Native Design are continuing to build on their
expertise in the healthcare sector with recent launches of new product platforms for US gene-
sequencing company, Illumina.

Native worked on the full product development of a range of next- generation sequencing
machines. The design was driven by a need to improve workflows and create an iconic brand
identity for Illumina.

Taking responsibility for all aspects of the design, including user research and opportunity
identifi cation, Native liaised with lab teams on enhanced sample throughput, optimising the
design and engineering for manufacture and building prototypes for evaluation of key features.

 

 

 

 

Providing a full design service across physical product, digital user interface and packaging, the
MiSeq i100 is the latest in a range of ground-breaking sequencing products that Native have
helped deliver to market.

Native redesigned the Coloplast range of intimate healthcare solutions, accessories and their packaging, based on deep understanding of patient’s needs, taking the company from a collection of disparate brand identities with underperforming experiences, to a single brand, dedicated to making life easier for stoma and continence patients across all elements of delivery: physical, digital and service. As a result:

  • Coloplast’s new range outsold competitors 4:1 without requiring a reduction in margin
  • The company’s share price increased 500% over the partnership, and has been repeatedly recognised by Forbes as one of the world’s most innovative companies.
  • Coloplast enjoyed the best reputation amongst patients, among leading medical companies worldwide, for 3 years.

Boehringer Ingelheim – Improving the first 30 day experience of patients that have been newly prescribed to a blockbuster Type 2 diabetes drug

A digital engagement solution which aimed to improve the patient experience during the first 30 days after being prescribed a new drug for Type 2 diabetes — when the patient is unlikely to feel the impact in that time.

Our goal was to increase the awareness of the medication’s benefits when we have no direct connection to the patient and to encourage more meaningful conversations between patients and doctors when they return to their first check-up, without being in the room with them.

 

Bowers and Wilkins – Delivering iconic products in the audio sector

Our design- led approach developed iconic and globally successful designs that took the company from $30M in revenues to over $300M.

Native crafted a powerful design DNA that expressed B&W’s audiophile heritage across their entire product portfolio, while the iconic Zeppelin speaker dock transformed B&W into a mass premium brand selling over 1M units.

Strategic partnership enabled Bowers to win new business opportunities in the automotive sector with BMW, Maserati, McLaren and Volvo, and helped grow through new retail channels such as the Apple Store.
