The Secretary of State for Health and Social Care has set up 11 working groups to assist in creating a 10-Year Health Plan:

  • Four groups will focus on envisioning the future of the NHS.
  • Seven groups will explore the necessary changes required to bring this vision to life.

Each group will be led by two co-chairs: one from either the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC) or NHS England, and one from outside these organisations.

You can find all of the groups here, however, we have listed the most relevant ones below:

Research, life sciences and innovation

This group will consider how the NHS can identify and capitalise on technologies such as genomics, artificial intelligence, engineering biology and quantum sensing over the coming decade. The group will also consider how the NHS currently supports research and innovation, including in life sciences, and what can be done to increase the speed and scale of adoption of new innovations.

Co-chairs:

  • Dr Vin Diwakar, NHS England
  • Professor Lord Darzi, Imperial College London and Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust

Data and technology

This group will consider how the NHS should focus its resources to ensure it maximises the impact of data and technology. This includes what can be done to make life easier and more productive for those who work in the NHS, and how data can be used more effectively to plan, manage and deliver services.
