Womb test to assess miscarriage risk developed

University of Warwick scientists have developed a novel test which measures the health of a woman’s womb lining to assess their risk of miscarriage.

The womb lining plays an important role in developing the embryo. However, if the womb lining does not act as expected, it can lead to bleeding and loss of the baby. Once this occurs, women are more likely to suffer another miscarriage in future.

Research on miscarriage has predominantly focused on embryo quality rather than the womb lining. It is hoped that a greater understanding of role of a womb lining can ensure women are better informed, reduce the risk of miscarriages and lead to the development of new treatments.

The test is currently being piloted on more than 1,000 patients at Tommy’s National Centre for Miscarriage Research at University Hospital Coventry & Warwickshire (UHCW).
