The Scottish Government is set to continue its efforts to expand the number of patients utilising NHS Scotland’s Hospital at Home service, backed by £3.6 million in new funding.
Recent data reveals that nearly 15,000 older patients benefited from the service last year, marking an increase of almost 25% compared to the previous year.
Thirteen healthcare providers have been granted a portion of this new funding.
This announcement coincides with the release of a new report by Healthcare Improvement Scotland, highlighting the impact of the Hospital at Home services. The report indicates that:
- 14,467 patients used the service in 2023, up from 11,686;
- Total bed capacity rose by 58%, surpassing the Scottish Government’s target of a 50% increase;
- Approximately £14.9 million was saved in hospital admission costs; and
- Around £36.3 million was saved in post-hospital care due to a reduction in re-admissions.
