The Nuffield Trust has examined the health pledges in the manifestos of all three major parties with startling results.
The think tank has indicated that the proposed NHS budgets under the Conservative and Labour party manifestos for the upcoming general election would result in lower spending than during the 2010-2015 austerity period up until 2029.
The Nuffield Trust’s analysis shows these plans would lead to the tightest funding in the NHS’s history, with projected annual increases of 0.9% for the Conservatives, 1.1% for Labour, and 1.5% for the Liberal Democrats.
This would likely not support the promised recovery, given the lack of detailed long-term funding plans, unless the governing party increases taxes which are not outlined in their manifestos. Given all parties have committed to cutting down waiting lists, we await to see how such a lofty pledge will be achieved.
