Sir Jim Mackey, Chief Executive of NHS England, and Samantha Jones, DHSC Permanent Secretary, have jointly released plans to restructure NHS England as part of its gradual absorption into DHSC. Notably, ‘medical and care technology’ has been added to the newly formed Commercial and Growth Directorate General.
This move aligns with the government’s plans to link life sciences and health innovations to their growth mission.
13 new Director General roles and 12 additional senior roles with the same status are part of the restructuring plans. The aforementioned Commercial and Growth Directorate General will answer directly to Samantha Jones, reflecting its importance to the health service going forward.
The Public Health & Emergencies and Science & Research directorates — which should encompass topics important to BIVDA such as AMR — will be accountable to the Government’s Chief Medical Officer.
