- BSAC welcomes this important development and looks forward to seeing how this vision will be translated into Trust-level work plans that are properly resourced and coordinated.
- BSAC also acknowledges this guidance will be useful, and should be considered, in the other UK nations.
- As we continue in our mission to build the world’s most dynamic community of infection experts, including many NHSE staff working on AMR and AMS, we stand ready to support this vital work wherever we can.
UKHSA publishes new analysis of health inequalities in England
- As part of its commitment to achieving equitable health security outcomes for everyone, the UK Health Security Agency is publishing comprehensive new data, the Health Inequalities in Health Protection report.
- The report provides a high-level summary of the current state of health inequalities in England caused by infectious diseases, as well as environmental health hazards.
- The Institute of Cancer Research has welcomed new plans to deliver around one million square feet of state-of-the-art research and laboratory space for life-sciences companies in Sutton, south London, where they will be located next door to our researchers.
- Aviva Capital Partners (ACP), Aviva’s in-house capital unit that invests in a range of infrastructure and real estate projects, and mixed-use developer Socius have unveiled plans for a new £1 billion development.
- The new development is the latest advance at The London Cancer Hub, a multi-partner project to create a world-leading centre for cancer research, treatment, education and enterprise in Sutton. It aims to bring leading life sciences companies together with academic researchers at the ICR, and clinicians at our hospital partner The Royal Marsden NHS Foundation Trust, to drive innovation in cancer research.
- Despite global campaigns, the public’s understanding of antimicrobial resistance (AMR) as a global emergency remains limited. Behaviour change is crucial in preserving antimicrobials but requires improved understanding of AMR at a population level.
- Members of the public co-designed intervention arms, selecting three alternatives to AMR to be evaluated in a four-armed online randomised behavioural experiment. The primary outcome was attitudes towards AMR. Secondary and exploratory outcomes included comprehension, behavioural intent and recall.
The antimicrobial resistance cube: a framework for identifying policy gaps and driving action
- WHO has summarised its commitment to Universal Health Coverage (UHC) with the UHC cube diagram, a globally recognised visual representation of policy choices to promote UHC and prioritise investments in health-care interventions.
- Inspired by the concept of the UHC cube, we propose a streamlined framework for policy makers, academics, and civil society to examine a country’s response to antimicrobial resistance (AMR)—the AMR cube.
