£15m investment to improve NHSE procurement efficiency

The Crown Commercial Service (CCS) is set to invest over £15 million into NHS England, aiming to upskill staff, enhance productivity and efficiency, and reduce waiting lists. This funding, averaging £5.3 million annually over the next three years, will be dedicated to establishing a pioneering NHS Commercial Learning and Development Academy, along with additional support to improve energy procurement and management within NHSE.

The academy will provide NHS staff with access to a variety of development opportunities, fostering a top-tier workforce.

This initiative aligns with the government’s agenda to stimulate economic growth, as the investment will equip contracting authorities with the necessary tools to manage all aspects of commercial delivery. Staff will receive specific accreditation in contract management and the latest procurement regulations.

CCS’s investment will also promote best practices and working methods among NHSE’s business and commercial professionals, particularly in energy procurement and management, contributing to greater efficiencies and supporting the NHS’s net-zero commitment.

These initiatives are consistent with the new NHS Commercial strategic framework, launched last November, marking a significant shift in the organisation’s operational approach.

Jacqui Rock, Chief Commercial Officer for NHS England, said: “These exciting initiatives working in partnership with Crown Commercial Service will help the NHS continue to deliver on our commitments to patients and our workforce while providing the best value for money for the taxpayer.”
