Reminder about the duty to notify SVHCs in articles
There are substances in articles notification (SIAN) duties under Article 7(2) for substances identified on the UK REACH Candidate List as substances of very high concern (SVHC).
These specify that any producer or importer of articles shall notify HSE with specific information when both the following conditions are met:
- the SVHC is present in imported/manufactured articles in quantities totalling over one tonne per producer or importer per year
- the SVHC substance is present in those articles above a concentration of 0.1% weight by weight (w/w).
Notifications should be submitted through the Comply with UK REACH service.
This notification duty does not apply if the SVHC has already been registered in REACH for the same use.
