DEFRA have opened applications to join EPR Scheme Administrator Steering Group. They provided the following information:
DEFRA has now opened applications for joining the Scheme Administrator Steering Group for the UK Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) for packaging scheme. Packaging EPR is a joint scheme between the UK governments – England, Northern Ireland, Scotland, and Wales.
The new EPR for packaging scheme will launch in 2025 and its interim administrator, which will be in place for 12 months, will bring together talented individuals who are passionate about recycling and the environment.
The members of the steering group will be involved in one of the most important and powerful environmental reforms of our time, by making a direct contribution to achieving decarbonisation and net zero by 2050. EPR will transform our economic model towards a circular economy and away from the current ‘take, make, use, throw’ approach.
The Scheme Administrator (SA) steering group is an interim 12-month forum that will support the design, establishment, and mobilisation of the packaging Extended Producer Responsibility scheme. It will play a critical role in the formation of the Scheme Administrator and future improvements in its design and development.
The steering group will also advise on the shape and approach of the SA’s future governance arrangements, functions, and operations, before the scheme’s underpinning regulations come into force and the SA is formally established.
The steering group will consist of 12 individuals from producer organisations and 12 other members, representing local authorities, the four UK governments, three trade associations, a waste management body representative, an environmental non-government organisation (NGO), the Head of the EPR SA and an independent chair.
If you are interested in joining the steering group, please email us for the full application information pack. The deadline for applications is 23:55 on Tuesday 3 October 2023.
