BIVDA are a member of the Joint Trade Association, a group of diverse UK trade associations. It has various functions, one being that it works with DEFRA on the WEEE compliance fee scheme. Another related project is Material Focus (Material Focus – The people behind Recycle Your Electricals – WEEE ) who are responsible for the Hypno Cat ‘Recycle your electricals’ campaign (Recycle Your Electricals – WEEE Recycling – Material Focus ) aimed at promoting recycling of electricals.
Material Focus is currently looking at funding opportunities that would help support increased recycling. The focus is on consumer electronics but self-test IVD related projects could be in scope if they promote wider recycling of such devices from households, or improve device recyclability. Material Focus currently have projects under way with UCL regarding consumer electronics but they’re looking for other projects that may have a wide impact of improving recycling of electricals.
