ECHA has published their latest weekly update (26 June).
Due to changes in the structure of ECHA’s updates, we can no longer provide a link to the updates themselves. To ensure BIVDA members continue to receive this information, we have opted to provide the full ECHA notification.
One hazardous chemical added to the Candidate List
The Candidate List of substances of very high concern (SVHC) now contains 241 entries for chemicals that can harm people or the environment. Companies are responsible for managing the risks of these chemicals and giving customers and consumers information on their safe use.
The newly added chemical, bis(α,α-dimethylbenzyl) peroxide, is toxic for reproduction and is used as a processing aid, for example, as a flame retardant.
REACH

Registration open: Contract research organisation days
We will host Contract research organisation days on 19-20 November 2024 in Helsinki.
As we are committed to reducing vertebrate animal testing, preventing duplicate testing and refining the methods currently used, we aim to establish an open discussion between contract research organisations performing animal studies and our regulatory scientists assessing those studies.
Read more about the event and how to register on our website. The registration is open until 31 August 2024.
We welcome new accredited stakeholders
We have four new accredited stakeholder organisations:

Nanopinion: NAM-based hazard assessment of nanocellulose
Read our latest Nanopinion by Francesco Cubadda, Maria Chiara Astuto and Olimpia Vincentini.
The column describes how advanced New Approach Methodologies (NAMs) can be used to evaluate nanocellulose’s intestinal uptake, local effects and colonic fate.
The authors also underline the need for rigorous regulatory assessments, paving the way for further research under EFSA’s NAMS4NANO project to enhance nanoscale safety evaluations.
Reminder: Have your say on EUON
We are conducting an evaluation on the functioning of the European Union Observatory for Nanomaterials (EUON). The survey closes on 3 July 2024 – remember to have your say. Your opinion matters.
