New NICE consulation: Statement of intent on NICE’s approach to ongoing evaluations ahead of proposed changes to NICE’s standard cost-effectiveness thresholds

By January 21, 2026No Comments

Following the closure of NICE’s consultation of ministerial intervention into their cost-effectiveness thresholds, the organisation has released a further consultation on their statement of intent to ongoing evaluations.

For reference, NICE uses cost-effectiveness thresholds in health economic evaluations to determine whether health technologies represent value for money for use in the NHS in England.

Subject to parliamentary approval, DHSC processes and associated timelines, NICE anticipates that DHSC will direct NICE to implement the threshold increase (£20,000 – £30,000 to £25,000 – £35,000) for technology appraisals from April 2026.

Members should read both the consultation document and the statement of intent before answering any questions. If you wish to respond to this consultation, please create and activate a NICE account first. You can then sign into the consultations area using the link below.
