The Government have launched a consultation to inform their upcoming National Cancer Plan.
Lord Darzi’s independent investigation into the NHS, published last year, found the need to improve cancer diagnosis rates, waits and outcomes. Currently, the UK lags behind our continental neighbours and English-speaking countries.
The consultation takes the form of an open conversation rather than outlining proposals for comment; constituting a request for expert ideas and evidence that the government can build on.
The areas of specific focus are:
- prevention
- access
- early diagnosis
- treatment
- living with and beyond cancer
- research and development
The national cancer plan will take forward the reforms to be set out by the 10 Year Health Plan and our approach to cancer will be based on the shifts set out in it. Moreover, it will also look at how the NHS can maximise impact through the most up-to-date technology and innovations.
You can respond to the consultation here. Further information and sight of the survey questions can be found here.
The call for evidence closes at 11:59pm on 29 April 2025.
