Medical Devices in Primary Care: Proposals for updating Part IX of the Drug Tariff – medical devices available for prescribing in primary care.

The government has today released the anticipated consultation on Medical Devices in Primary Care: Proposals for updating Part IX of the Drug Tariff – medical devices available for prescribing in primary care.

Following the publication DHSC’s Medical Technology Strategy in February 2023, they have set out a series of proposals to modernise Part IX of the Drug Tariff to ensure we are delivering the right product, in the right place, at the right price. This is very detailed and we encourage you and your teams to review in depth and feedback to BIVDA to inform our continued advocacy as a member of the Drug Tariff Forum representing our members on this topic.

This is a targeted consultation. The Department for Health and Social Care is keen to hear views from patient representative groups, clinicians prescribing or recommending medical devices listed on Part IX of the Drug Tariff, NHS commissioners and suppliers and manufacturers involved in the production and dispensing of these medical devices. Members of the Drug Tariff Forum have already input a selection of views prior to its publication, but the more responses to emphasise the sector’s position is paramount. BIVDA will also be responding and would therefore be grateful for a copy of your response (anonymised if preferred) should be sent to ben@bivda.org.uk
