Last week, BIVDA Chief Executive Helen Dent participated in a panel and roundtable in Parliament focusing on accelerating the adoption of innovation and AI in the life sciences sector.
Hosted by Curia, UKAI, and UK Healthcare and Life Sciences Innovation (UKHLSI), Helen spoke alongside the likes of host, Cambridge MP Daniel Zeichner, and Professor Gillian Leng, underlining the need for greater innovation adoption in the NHS.
She noted that adoption of diagnostics is an existing challenge, with AI adding additional complexity to pathways. Therefore, measures must be taken to address these issues and ensure UK patients benefit from new technologies and products.
Helen also observed that adoption could be enabled across the system by revisiting elements of procurement conducted during the pandemic, as well as implementing best practice. This topic was explored comprehensively in BIVDA’s report into the procurement of COVID-19 tests during the pandemic, which can be read here.
We would like to thank Curia, UKHLSI and UKAI for inviting us to this productive event and look forward to reading their upcoming policy report.
