BIVDA’s Policy and Public Affairs Executive Ben Kemp attended a Health and Life Sciences Showcase event in Parliament hosted by Curia, UKAI and UKHLSI. The event sought to highlight health companies with highly innovative products, including BIVDA member Genomics.

It was attended by innovators, NHS leaders, and parliamentarians, the latter including sponsoring MP Steve Yemm and former Chair of the APPG for Life Sciences Daniel Zeichner MP.

MHRA Chief Executive Lawrence Tallon was among the speakers and detailed the importance of striking a balance between cutting regulatory red tape for industry and ensuring only safe products enter the UK market, noting that an overly cautious approach is equally as harmful as a cavalier attitude to regulation.

As strong supporters of a more innovative NHS, we were encouraged to see the depth of talent among innovators matched by genuine enthusiasm from decision-makers in the room. Combined with the direction set out in the NHS 10-Year Plan, the Life Sciences Sector Plan, and the Neighbourhood Health Framework, this gives reason for optimism that innovation can truly take root and thrive across the health service in the years ahead.
