BIVDA welcomes the announcement of £237 million in funding for Community Diagnostic Centres (CDCs) across England. This will facilitate the opening of four new CDCs as well as the expansion and enhancement of 32 existing facilities.
In 2025, helped by the work of CDCs, the NHS in England carried out a record number of important diagnostic tests – almost 30 million – and has carried out an additional 3.5 million tests in the previous 18 months compared to the 18 months prior to July 2024.
NHSE’s recently released Neighbourhood Health Framework has committed to a review of diagnostic services to map out capacity in existing CDCs – an approach BIVDA has consistently advocated for.
In vitro diagnostics (IVDs) are pivotal to the delivery of effective community-based healthcare as envisioned by the government. We therefore hope that patients benefitting from this CDC expansion ultimately receive greater access to a broader range of IVDs, helping to improve their health outcomes and consolidate their testing journey.
