Helen meets with Health Committee Chair Layla Moran MP

Last week, BIVDA Chief Executive Helen Dent met with Chair of the Health and Social Care Committee Layla Moran MP during a roundtable on the future of UK health policy.

Despite the Government identifying our sector as critical to economic growth and global biosecurity, Helen highlighted that companies continue to face significant barriers to NHS adoption – driven by short-term procurement decisions, inadequate tendering, and funding mechanisms that fail to support innovation.

Funding, she noted, must follow the patient rather than the provider cost centre.

She also stated that IVD tests – especially POCT tests – are not prioritised in Community Diagnostic Centres; to fully unlock the potential of these facilities, this must change.

Lastly, Helen stressed the importance of ensuring accurate and timely diagnosis determines pathways rather than shoehorning diagnostics into existing pathways inappropriately.
