BIVDA spearheads government trade mission to China

By March 31, 2026No Comments

BIVDA Board Member and Treasurer Jag Grewal visited China to represent our organisation at CACLP, one of the world’s leading exhibitions dedicated to in vitro diagnostics (IVDs).

As part of the Department for Business and Trade’s (DBT) UK IVD Mission, Jag undertook a packed four-day programme. This included participating in a high-level roundtable with and attending a MedTech networking dinner with leading Chinese IVD companies, touring the CACLP exhibition, taking part in media interviews, and delivering an address at the Go Global Forum.

Throughout the visit, Jag emphasised that the UK is open for business, highlighting the strength of its innovation ecosystem and its global leadership in R&D. He underlined the UK’s ability to develop novel, game-changing IVD technologies, supported by a forward-looking policy landscape – namely the new 10-Year Health Plan and Life Sciences Sector Plan.

These demonstrate the UK’s ambition to transform health outcomes, partly through expanded and decentralised diagnostic testing.

Jag noted that China shares many of these ambitions, and as both a significant market for UK manufacturers and a potential manufacturing hub within global supply chains, China presents valuable opportunities for deeper collaboration for UK companies.

We would like to thank the Department for Business and Trade for the invitation to join this mission, which has enabled new connections and strengthened UK–China partnerships in the IVD sector.

It was encouraging to see strong UK representation at the exhibition, including companies such as Randox, Virax Biolabs, and BIVDA members TTP plc, and we look forward to following up on our conversations now we have returned to the UK.
