Type 2 diabetes rises twice as fast in younger women compared to older women, data shows
- New data reveals that type 2 diabetes diagnoses rose by 47% between 2017/18 to 2023-24. In comparison, diagnoses rose by 22% in women aged 40-79.
- During this same period, type 2 diabetes diagnoses in men under 40 increased by 34%.
- Diabetes UK are concerned about the follow-up care which is offered to women who have had gestational diabetes (GDM), which increases the risk of developing type 2 diabetes after pregnancy.
STIs fall with syphilis among gay and bisexual men lowest in a decade
- New data published today by the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) shows a fall in sexually transmitted infections (STIs) in England, with overall diagnoses down 8.3% — a positive sign that system-wide efforts to tackle STIs are making a real difference.
- Among the most encouraging findings, syphilis diagnoses in gay and bisexual men have fallen to their lowest level since 2016 — an 18.7% decline from 6,349 in 2024 to 5,164 in 2025.
Undiagnosed chronic kidney disease endangers millions of lives
- Millions of people worldwide are at risk because chronic kidney disease (CKD) is going undiagnosed, according to global research being unveiled this week.
- The researchers argue that health systems are failing to put measures in place to ‘catch’ people who could be at greater risk of developing CKD early, such as people with diabetes, high blood pressure or heart disease, for example by running annual urine tests.

- The partnership will also bring together global data on diseases like drug-resistant E. coli, enabling faster detection of microbes which can resist treatments, and speeding up how we can identify and tackle infectious outbreaks.
